Okay, first of all. Like many, my favorite blog on wordpress.com is icanhascheezburger.com. WICKED, LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE.

But if you notice, right on the header of this blog, there exist adsense!. I thought we cant use adsense on a wordpress.com hosted blog!. What gives? does wordpress allow adsense only on higher profile blogs?, if so, how is that defined? Can someone please shed some light on this.

you basically wrote the reason in your post. ichc is part of the vip hosting program which costs about $600 a month! so on the basis of the fee i’d think ichc needs the adsense, heh.

Yeahh fair enough, but still, http://wordpress.com/vip-hosting/ does’nt mention anything about the adsense or advertisment. Well, it does mention that the higher end bloggers support themselves through advertisment, but does’nt go into details about that.

Coool tho, definatly good to know.

Hello there,
Did you know that there are Google adsense ads on your blog too and not just on icanhascheezburger.

WordPress.com has been running Google adsense ads on our blogs for over a year now.

Take particular note of what Toni and Matt say here http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=16322

In the future you will be able to purchase an upgrade to have the advertising removed. At this point in time you cannot.

Advertising
To support the service we may occasionally show Google text ads on your blog, however we do this very rarely. In the future you’ll be able to purchase an upgrade to either turn the ads off or show your own ads and make money from your blog.

I think that covers it all. 🙂
